A Monday reminder 💭

As the sun’s rays glow through the window, a sense of peace rushes over me. But every few moments, when the clouds float by, they dim the sunlight and the beams on the wall disappear. It reminds me that, in an instant, our peace can be disrupted, leaving us confused, disheartened, and empty.

“Don’t take yourself so seriously” is a phrase that has been on my heart for the past several days. What does it really mean, though? Perhaps it means something unique to each person.

In Japan, there is a form of living called wabi-sabi. It is essentially an acceptance of imperfection and an appreciation of the beauty in incompleteness. What a concept, right? Kintsugi is a Japanese art that exemplifies wabi-sabi in its repair of broken ceramics with gold-dusted lacquer. The golden cracks from the repairs add to the object’s unique history, therefore enhancing its beauty.

It has been almost a YEAR since I’ve been on Instagram. After examining my heart’s motivation, I had to take a step back. I’ve decided that this time, I’m not going to let any of the online superficiality be what drives me. This time, I’m going to share what’s on my heart when I feel called to — not on a strict schedule according to whatever Instagrams’s ever-changing algorithm is at the time, not to achieve a certain number, and not just to stay “relevant.” Instead, I want to nurture my community that I have right here, right now. If you feel drained by the demands of social media today, I want to encourage you that it doesn’t have to be that way. I challenge you to shift your perspective and take a step back if needed. I promise you — if you ask, God will bring fruit from that time away. It will be worth it.

Ugly political arguments, dehumanizing talk, and chaos all around — it is truly heartbreaking.

Hey folks, nothing fancy — just here to balance out your feed with my mom bun, tired eyes, a fussy baby, and a heap of laundry. 🤣

It’s important to reflect and ask ourselves if it’s time to take a few days, or however long, to disconnect with the online life, and reconnect with God and the eternal things of the heart. I can’t describe how refreshing it is for my soul — I often forget what it’s like not to feel pressured to be “on” all the time. I forget what it’s like not to be sucked in.

God is teaching me the importance of being present. When I’m present, I feel the closeness of the Holy Spirit. So closely that all my preoccupations and distractions in the world are forgotten. Anxiety fades away and I realize I’m safe, and that I’ve been safe all along.
